The Simple Woman's Daybook - January 3rd, 2012

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... The sun is shining and the sky is blue.

I am thinking...  That the sunshine is wonderful, even if it is deceiving...it's really cold out there!

I am thankful... That we all made it to school today on the first day back after break, especially Mr. CrazyLife who is going back after layoff.

In the kitchen... Speghetti Sauce is in the crockpot, ready for eating when we get home.

I am wearing... Khaki's, fuzzy blue sweater and black loafers.  My favorite blue jewelry.

I am creating... A new playlist for my preschool creative movement classes.

I am going... to work on new choreography tonight.

I am wondering... How Thing #2 did on the bus this morning.

I am reading... Nothing at the moment....need to hit the library!

I am hoping... That tomorrow morning goes as smoothly as this morning did.

I am looking forward to... the weekend!

I am learning... about homemade cleaners...again.

Around the house... we are in scrub-down mode from top to bottom.

I am pondering... summer vacation possibilities.

A favorite quote for today... The feet can learn the steps, but only the spirit can dance.

One of my favorite things... Andes Mints.

A few plans for the rest of the week: More housecleaning, dance lessons and hopefully a bit of relaxation in the evening.

A peek into my day...

Meal Plan Monday 8-15-11

The days are long, but the years are short.  I read this quote on another blog today and it totally fits how I've been feeling lately.  Life has been moving at breakneak speed.  We've been spending lots of family time enjoying each other's company.  But the kids are starting to drive me crazy!  Thing #1 has picked up a "tween" attitude lately and all summer her rolling eyes have followed us around.  Things 2 and 3 are just busy being boys and wrestling and breaking things and yelling lots.  And Thing #4 is too full of her own cuteness and trying to get away with murder!

It's been a hectic summer with lots of trips to Grandma's house, a family wedding, two new babies in our families (LOVE being an aunt!) and a couple of family funerals.  As such, I haven't been online much.  It seems that I'm too busy enjoying the days to go online and when I do have time, I'm too tired!  So here I am, attempting to write again and stay up to date. Thanks to anyone who is still following and reading along!

We've got two full weeks and a half week before I head back to school and three full weeks before the kids do.  We're still waiting to hear if Mr. CrazyLife gets called back to teach this year or if his layoff will stand.  He's got a couple of applications out, so keep fingers and toes crossed and lots of prayers for us.

Anyhoo....we plan on savoring and enjoying every last minute of our summer vacation!

On to business . . . .

Meal Plan Monday 8-15-11

Breakfasts - served with fruit
cereal w/milk and cinnamon toast
scrambled eggs w/sausage
oatmeal w/fuit and honey
granola bars

Lunches - served with fruit and veggies
Mac n' cheese
PBJ sandwiches
ramen noodles w/hot dogs
tuna salad sandwiches (or on a lettuce leaf for me)
muffin tin lunches w/fruit, veggies,  meat, jello, crackers and cheese

Dinners - served with veggie and bread
Nachos/tacos/taco salad night
homemade pizza
Grilled pork chops
sloppy joes
grilled cheese and ham sandwiches
do-agains

Date Night

Mr. CrazyLife and I have decreed this Friday, July 15th as an offical DATE NIGHT.   It's been quite a while since we had an offical date night so I'm quite excited.  You know the kind where you get a babysitter and actually leave the house without four squabbling children in tow?  Our date night lately have consisted of wrestling said squabbling children to sleep and then popping in a movie, cuddling on the couch and promptly crashing into sleep ourselves.  It's about time we took a night off.

And as some people might know . . . there is a release of a certain movie this Friday. Part 2 of a specific movie to be exact.  And we're super excited.  We're big Harry Potter fans from way back and can't wait to see how the movies end up.  In fact, we found that the theater in our town is running a double feature of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 AND Part 2 back to back on Friday!  Yippeee!!!!

I might have to sneak in some Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans or something in honor of the event.

In the meantime, I'm hoping to hit all the previous movies this week to remind/catch up with the series.  I probably should really re-read them all, but let's face it.  Time and the essence just aren't with me this week.  Not to mention that Thing #1 is BEGGING to read Harry Potter #4 and I'm trying to hold her off for a bit (at least until our Hogwarts summer is over!).  If I started re-reading them, there'd be no holding her back!

So a Harry Potter movie-a-thon is on order for the week.....and I might or might not have some Harry Potter recipes set aside in honor of that as well.  Just not Butterbeer - check out this post for more on that Epic Fail!

A Hogwart's Adventure and Frienly Wednesday

We started our adventures at Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry this week.  And it's been a blast so far!!!  If you're interested in following along, you can read moe here:

In honor of the Harry Potter adventures we're having, I'm post a recipe I came across while searching.  As all us Harry Potter fans know, Butterbeer is the premiere drink of the Wizarding world.  Mr. CrazyLife's cousin has a recipe for it that is quite good served warm or used as in a "Butterbeer" float (ala root beer float style). But this recipe incorporates the best of both worlds: Butterbeer and Cake.
(amybites photo, not mine!)

Check it out here.

And it's Wednesday . . . . so here's to Friendly Wednesday over at Feeding Four!!!

Setting up a Household Notebook

As I'm ever on a path to a more simple, easy and organic lifestyle, I'm always trying new things to help organize myself (and the family) around the house.  A few years ago, I had a household notebook that contained the details of our life: menus, babysitter info, website/password info, phone numbers, cleaning schedule, calendar, etc.  I had a separate one for bills.  And life was good.

And then, as goes the way of all good things, life got in the way and my notebook was lost in the shuffle.

I miss it.  I want it back.  I NEED it back.

So I'm working on setting up a new household notebook.  I'll share as I go along.  Do any of you keep a household notebook?  What do you put in it and how do you organize it?  Do you have any websites/downloads you'd like to share?

I'm planning on having these sections for sure:
Babysitter Info
Important phone numbers
Kids' friends' info
Weekly cleaning schedule
Meal plans - weekly/monthly/recipes
Shopping lists/coupons (perhaps a second notebook?)
Calendar
Website/password info
Family birthdays/anniversaries
Family info (birthday/ss#/insurance/allergies/etc)

I'm hoping to make this a working book - one that will live with us and grow and change as we do.  Something that I, Mr. CrazyLife and all the kids can use and understand.  I think that setting our daily lives and rhythms and schedules to paper should help with some of the craziness and confusion that sometimes rules our lives.  I want my children to get used to making lists and keeping track of life in general so that when they are older, they don't struggle the way I do.

I'm sure I'll tweek things as I go.  But my goal for the month of June is to get this notebook in order and get it working.  I've been browsing the web and there are SO many fantastic ideas out there on setting up a household notebook, so if you need inspiration, just google!

School's Out! School's Out!!

As a kid, nothing was better than shouting, "School's Out! School's Out!  Teacher let the Fool's Out!" on the last day of school.

Let me tell you, as a teacher, there is still nothing better . . . only this time the fools' getting out ARE the teachers!

There is just something special about those last few days of school.  The lessons are pretty much done for the year.  Everyone is relaxed and looking forward to long summer days in the sun.  Kids are looking forward to a break from their teachers.  And let's face it, the teachers are looking forward to a break from the kids.

There has been a lot of bad press out there lately about teachers (especially if you live in my GREAT state).  And yes, sometimes the school system and teachers are in the wrong.  But sometimes we're in the right too.  And I can honestly say that I have never worked with a teacher who didn't care about her children or who didn't try their hardest to help a child learn.  Not all of them were warm, fuzzy, loving teachers.  Not all of them were unique or original in their teaching.  But all of them do their best to help each child succeed.

And at the end of the school year, as we're enjoying those long, hot days in the sun (or the long, rainy, chilly days in grey clouds if you're in my neck of the woods lately), we can look back with pride over how well our students achieved this year.  And smile.  And start thinking about next year . . . well, maybe in a day or two!

(Mr. CrazyLife and the munchkins still have about 10 days of school left though . . . so I'll enjoy those 10 days before totally allowing myself to get on to summer mode, I guess!)

Happy Summer Vacation!!!!

(and wait till you see what we have planned for this year . . . TONS of magical fun ahead . . . just wait for the OWL post and see!)

Sunday Afternoon Thoughts . . .

Lately, I've been in a kind of funk about life.  Things in my world are being turned end over end and I'm not sure where they (or we) are going to end up.  I've been spending a lot of time worrying over what is going to happen and how I should feel about it.  I worry about my four little munchkins and how we will take care of them if the worst comes to fruition.

But last night while in discussion with my in-laws, I was reminded of this verse and meditated on it a bit last night.  I'm posting it here to share - if anyone is feeling worried about what the future holds, meditate on it a bit yourself and I'm sure you'll feel better in no time!

28“And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30“But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which isalive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31“Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32“For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:28-34

Post-Race Funk

Since I came back from the half marathon, I've been in sort of a post-race funk.  I don't want to go outside and walk or run.  I don't want to go to work.  I don't want to workout.  I just want to sit down and read a book and play with my kids.  I just can't quite get into the swing of things again!

I'm feeling a bit like this little guy:

I've got to get out of this funk.

My house really needs a good once over.  Especially since I had three sick kids this past week.  I've done more laundry this week alone than I did all of last month!!  Ick.  Ick. Ick.  And while I got a good start on spring cleaning last weekend, well it was put on hold with the sick kids.  Need to get back on top of that.

I really need to get out and walk more.  The snow and ice just really deters me.  I'm so ready for spring.

My garden is covered in huge piles of snow.  I keep dreaming of going out there and digging in the dirt and planting seeds and growing good food.  But then I wake up and there's all the snow.

I'm tired, too.  My left side has been numb for the past week and a half.  It's still functional, but numb.  I keep dropping things.  I can't move fast.  I'm exhausted.  And I keep forgetting where I put things and what I want to say.  I drop words.

The kids are driving me crazy.  Thing #2 has hit my limit of what I can handle alone.  His behavior is WAY out of control and I don't know what to do to help him.  He doesn't do it at home, just at school.

We're running tight financially this month with lots of things coming due and a lot of extras coming up.  Dance costumes, extra mortgage payment, things for the cows, extra wood for building projects, bathroom projects, three school fundraisers, etc.  Too many things due at one time.

Feeling a bit unconnected with the world.  I just want to stay in my own house and do my own thing and not deal with anyone or anything outside it.

See?

Grumpy.

That's my name.

Okay . . . pity party over.  I've got to get up and make some sunshine happen!!!

The Princess Half Marathon - in review

It seems that since I returned home from Florida and the Princess Half, I've been in a kind of post-race, post-vacation funk.  I really haven't done anything more than what I needed to do to get by.  So no blogging, no emails, no internet of any kind.  Just laundry, housework, schoolwork and family.

But I want to share what a wonderful time I had down south.  And I want to share the accomplishment of finishing the Half Marathon.

And to be honest, I want to re-live the moments through pictures!  =)
Because, really, who WOULDN"T want to re-live this?

So here is a quick photo re-cap of the weekend (all my own photos with a couple stolen from my dear friend, Meredith who I ran the race with!)

I left Michigan Thursday evening with little trouble.  I got to fly to Atlanta with the Michigan State baseball team, which isn't as exciting as one may think.  =)  I finally arrived in Orlando around 11:30 and took the Magical Express to the resort.  Meredith was awake waiting for me.  We chatted for a bit before falling asleep and sleeping very soundly!

Friday morning we started the day at the Fit for a Princess Expo at the ESPEN sports complex.  What a show!!  We were greeted at the door by two handsome coachmen and walked in to find a hall full of vendors selling way too many things I just *had* to have!  Thankfully, I walked out of there with just my race pack, a new SPIbelt and a headband.  Oh, and a 13.1 magnet for my car!

The glass running slipper was definitly a highlight of the Expo.

The rest of that first day was spent at Hollywood Studios where we had all kinds of fun!

Then we head over to the Magic Kingdom for some evening entertainment.

Oh the Times, They are a'Changing

It's been quite a while since my last series of posts here on CrazyLife.  I hate to do that as I love blogging and sharing things here.  When I started this blog, my plan was to share recipes, craft ideas, homesteading ideas and the like.  And I did great - until summer started and I was so busy at home with the children (on a side note, I don't know how you stay at home moms do it - you're AMAZING!).  Then I took a little break, blogging now and again with the intention of starting up again in the fall when I went back to work.  Well, lo and behold, a change in my work status meant a change of life for me.  I went from having a classroom in three buildings to being in one building, teaching off a cart.  I lost my walking routes.  I lost my desk computer hook up.  I lost my free "prep time."  I lost track of my life.

One of the best things we did was have Auntie CrazyLife come and start watching the kids.  It was such a big help this fall.  Then last week happened and we had a crazy time of it.  The long story short is that Auntie CrazyLife is no longer working for us and we're back in a home daycare setting.  It was one of the hardest decisions to make ever, but we had to do what was best for the kids and for us.  It was a stressful week for us, but I'm happy with the decision.  I'm hoping my sister and the rest of my family is understanding of it eventually.

I'm still running/walking, but the cold weather and different school/prep times have really cut into that.  I'm doing the Princess Half Marathon in about a month and a half and I'm really excited about it, but feel like I need more training and not sure that I'll get it in.  The less walking/yoga I've been doing, my body has really been not happy with me.  So I'm working on getting back on track with that.

Another thing we've been working on at the CrazyLife house is "greening" up our lives.  I've got some posts planned around that that will *hopefully* get posted soon!

Lots of Homesteading ideas are flowing as well - I got my first seed catalog in the mail about a week ago and my mind has been racing!  Can't wait for the ground to get unfrozen and uncovered with snow so I can play in the dirt again.

Sooooo.....lots of ideas flowing around here.  Hoping to get them posted and shared and all that good stuff!

The Cold and Flu Season

Cold and flu season is in full force with us.  And we always seem to get hit hard in the fall.  Thing #4 has already had pnemonia this fall and Thing #3 had croup.  We've had the nebulizer out and going since the middle of October and it will stay in active duty until about mid-March.

I try to prevent colds as naturally as possible.  We up our doses of Vitamin C and Vitamin D during the colder months.  We also run the humidfiers all the time.  I personally up my Vitamin B12 dose as well.

Something new I'm trying this year  is Oregeno oil.  It was suggested to me by our local heath food store.  I looked up online and found these things out about it:

What are the Benefits of Oil of Oregano?

The ancient Greeks were one of the first people to recognize oregano oil for its health benefits and medicinal qualities. It is known to be a potent antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic oil that can reduce pain and inflammation and effectively fight off infections.

Some of the specific benefits of Oil of Oregano are:

•Destroying organisms that contribute to skin infections and digestive problems.

•Strengthening the immune system.

•Increasing joint and muscle flexibility.

•Improving respiratory health.

Uses of Oil of Oregano

Skin Infections

Oil of Oregano can be applied directly onto the skin to treat itches, skin infections, and irritated gums, but only if it has been diluted. Always follow the instructions on your particular bottle before applying topically onto the skin, since highly concentrated oils may first need to be mixed with Olive Oil or Coconut Oil before application (usually one teaspoon of Olive Oil or Coconut Oil per one drop of Oil of Oregano).

Digestive Problems

The high concentrations of thymol and carvacrol in Oil of Oregano have been shown to calm upset stomachs and aid digestion. Therefore, a quick home remedy for mild indigestion is to drink a glass of milk or juice that is mixed with 2 or 3 drops of the oil.

Sinus Congestion

Oil of Oregano is a wonderful natural remedy for sinus congestion. A common solution is to add 3 drops of the oil into a glass of juice and drink this mixture daily for 3 to 5 days.

Colds and Sore Throats

Oil of Oregano is an excellent early defense mechanism when you feel a cold or sore throat coming on. Simply take 3 drops of Oregano Oil once per day (you can mix it into a glass of orange juice) and you should notice results within a few hours. Repeat this once per day for up to 5 days until the symptoms are gone.

So far it seems to be doing it's job.  Three months into school and I have yet to have a cold or any other sickness that is going around with the kids.  Usually by this time, I've had two sinus infections and bronchitis.  I haven't tried it with the children yet and probably won't.  I'm not sure of it's affects on them.

If someone does come down with a cold, we also treat that naturally if possible.  We up Vitamin C again.  We heat up water with peppermint oil in it and then "steam" our heads - put the water in a bowl and put our heads over the bowl with a towel on top - garenteed to clear stuffy noses.  We use heating pads on the chest.  We'll do "hot toddies" if possible (I don't put whisky in the kids - just warm 7up or Cider).  Lots of chicken noodle soup and hot tea or chocolate.

What home remedies do you use to fight off the cold and flu?  What do you treat them with?

Oh-bla-di, Oh-bla-da, Life Goes On.....

As a running theme in this blog....Life goes on.....

Late summer happened and with it the taking apart and putting away of the garden.  We froze many a green/yellow bean, corn kernal and broccoli tree.  Not to mention the berries that were frozen and put away.  Or the mushrooms, berries, onions, and apples that were dried.  The onions that were braided and put into the cistern for storage.  The peaches canned.  The apples sauced.  The tomatos juiced and sauced.  BBQ sauce made.  Cabbage fermented and frozen as sauerkrat.  Busy times.

Then school started.  Thing #1 began second grade in the gifted and talented program.  She's doing grade level work in science and social studies and working one grade ahead in math and language arts.  She is in a magnet classroom, so all the children are at the same level and working at the same degree.  Thing #2 began first grade and is having all the challenges that come with being a spirited child in this world.  He just doesn't fit into the box of a "typical" first grader and has a teacher that wants all her kids to fit neatly into that box.  It's a struggle, but he's coping well and we're working with him on respect and expectations.  Things #3 and #4 began doing preschool with Auntie CrazyLife, who comes to our home each morning at 6:45 to watch the children.  Having her around has been a lifesend.  Mornings are so much easier and the big kids don't have to ride the bus anymore.  I'm not rushing around to get out the door and everyone is happier in the home setting than a daycare setting.  Mr. CrazyLife and myself both started teaching in new schools this fall and are adjusting as well as we can in the situation.

Add afterschool dance classes, college classes and church activities and well, we're pretty much on the go all the time!

So that's life....I'm trying to be more productive with the blog and keep it updated more; life just seems to step in the way.  I haven't been online at home in almost 3 weeks!  And at school during my prep time I'm actually planning and prepping (amazing, I know).  So time has been limited.  I promise to update, but expect like 5 posts in a day and nothing for like a week!

Thanks for sticking with me and being loyal followers and friends!

Hello, Fall!

What a perfect weather way to end summer for us here at CrazyLife!!

We all head back to school tomorrow...Thing #1 will be a second grader, Thing #2 will be a first grader, Things 3 and 4 will be having preschool.  Daddy CrazyLife goes off to High School and the world of biology and advanced biology.  And Momma CrazyLife heads back to the elementary school and preschool music world.  It's going to be a crazy year with both adults in new school buildings and so much going on outside of school.

However, fall weather appears to be upon us and boy and I ever happy!!!  This summer has been one of the hottest ones on record here and I don't do heat.  The past few days have been perfect - breezy, cool, and partly sunny.  My jeans came out of hibernation along with their friend, the sweatshirt.  Ahhhhh, how I've missed them!!

Here we go again...

So another bloggy break for me.  I guess the summer and blogging just don't go well together in my world.  I've got a ton of things I want to post on and just never seem to find the time to post.  I think I'm going to try to type some up as drafts and then go and post them bit by bit.  Maybe that will help me keep updated!

Anyhoo...since my last postings....we've gone on holiday.  I'll do more on that one later.  We've been working in the garden and harvesting a few things.  It seems that the big farms are harvesting about two weeks early this year due to the heat and water, but since we planted a bit late, we're right on schedule.  Playing with the kids and trying to keep them busy.  Working on catching up with unfinished and half-finished home projects.  Just really keeping busy.

So to all my wonderful followers and friends, I hope you're still out there!  Drop me a note to say hello!

Long Time....No See?

Well, I've taken a short hiatus from blogging.  With the end of the school year and re-adjusting the kids to a summer schedule it's been super crazy.  Then add in the fact that every weekend in June is action packed with out-of-town and in-town events and relative visits and such.....well, there you go.

Sooooo....hopefully my wonderful followers haven't lost faith in me and will check back in.  I'm going to be better at posting now, I promise!

It's June 21st - the longest day of the year.....the summer solstice!  Happy Summer Solstice Day!!!

Bath Fun for the Kiddos

Since I'm in the bath and body mode today, I thought I'd share a fun little recipe I use for the kids bath.  Bath Fizzies.  Or Bath Bombs as some call them.  I was first introduced to these through a parenting message board I frequent. I ordered a few from a WAHM vendor on there and the kids loved them.  Begged to have them at every bath!!  They love to throw in the ball (or whatever molded shape) and watch it fizzle away!  So I started to look into how to make them myself.  Keep things a bit cheaper, plus, it gives me a project to do with the kids.  We're going to make up a batch of these really soon!

Bath Fizzies Baisc Recipe

1 C baking soda
1/2 C citric acid (available at drugstore/bulk foods)
1/2 C salts (dead sea or epsom)
1/2 C corn starch

Mix together all dry ingredients.

1 TBS water
1-2 TBS oil (any light vegetable oil will work; I've also used cocnut oil)
1-2 drops food coloring (if desired - makes for fun colors)
1-2 tsp essential oil (if desired - for fun)

Mix wet ingredients and add to dry ingredient mixture.  Now you have to work fast before the mix begins to set.  Take the mix and press into a mold.  Let them sit in a dry place, out of humidity for at least a day.  You can take them out of the mold reletively quickly as they will take shape and then let them dry out of the mold.  You can also use just about anything for a mold - ice cube trays, candy molds, plastic two piece christmas bulbs, etc. You can also take large scoops and use your hands to mold them into balls.

Another Summer Beauty Idea to Try

Okay, I've never tried this one.  But I'm finding that as I get older, shaving gets harder and harder.  The hairs just seem to come back faster.  And with all the nurological issues I'm having, the sensation of stubby hair on my legs and arms really bothers me.  Strange, I know.  But I found this idea for hair removal the other day and I think I might give it a try.  It's called sugaring and while it is similar to waxing, apparently it works better and is not as painful.  Hmmmm, we'll have to see.  Let me know if you try it out!

Basic Sugaring Recipe and Directions

2 cups sugar
¼ cup lemon juice
¼ cup water

Combine the ingredients in a heavy saucepan, and heat on low using a candy thermometer. Watch the mixture very carefully so that it doesn’t boil over. Heat the mixture to 250 F on the candy thermometer; this is the hardball candy stage.

Remove from the heat and let cool enough to pour into a jar without breaking or melting the jar. (Note that this jar will be reheated in the future. Make sure it is safe for whatever form of reheating you plan to do—in the microwave, or in a pan of water.

Rip clean cotton fabric in 1-inch strips. Make sure the cotton isn’t too coarsely woven.

This next step is very critical: Let the mixture cool enough so that it won’t burn your skin. The first time I did this I didn’t let the blend cool enough and I burned myself! Test the mixture on the palm of your hand, knowing that is much tougher than the sensitive skin under your arms.

Using a dull knife or Popsicle stick, spread the cooled sugar onto your skin. Cover with the cloth strips, let set for a few minutes, and then rip off quickly as you would a bandage.

In the future you can reheat the mixture to a warm and not hot temperature (see above), and reuse. Note that reheating will thicken the paste.

Taken from: Care 2 Make A Difference

Apparently, the history of body sugaring goes way back to the ancient Egyptian times.  The Pharohs would ask that their slave girls (or harem, I suppose) would be completly hairless.   This was a sign of beauty and cleanliness.  While there were razors and cutters available back then, I would imagine they would not be the safest or cleanest way to go with hair removal.  So sugaring was used.  Interesting, no?

I don't know about anyone else, but I find it the hardest to keep my skin smooth, clean and clear in the summer months.  All that hot weather wreaks havoc on my skin, espcially on my face.  Between sunscreen (a must for the very fair like myself), sweat, bronzers (since we avoid the sun, must do something for a warm glow), and cholorine/salt water/sand etc, I'm a mess!  So what to do?

I think I've found a few answers.  And I plan to share them with you.  The best thing is that they work all year long - not just in the summer!!  And they are simple and natural.  No putting icky chemicals or things we can't pronounce on our faces!  And dare I say it, they are even a bit yummy?

I have a trick that not only cleans my face and helps keep it clear, but it also leaves me a rosy glow and tight happy pores.  This tricks uses a secret ingredient that I think truely is nature's superfood - Honey.  That's it.  Honey.  Use honey with a bit of warm water.  Rub it all over your face and then wash it off.  You could use crystallized honey for a bit of a scrub (works better than those acidy peels and masks) or mix it with a bit of witch hazel or chamoille for added benefit.  Green tea mixed with it is nice as well.  I keep my honey in a little glass jar next to the bathroom sink.

Now to keep skin looking healthy all over and to get rid of the dull skin look, I use a homemade sugar scrub in the shower.  It's easy peasy lemon squeezy to make.  Just take about 1/2 C of sugar (white or brown - I like brown cause it smells so good!) and enough cold-pressed oil (such as olive, peanut, coconut or sunflower) to make it damp.  You could add some essential oil to it as well for added aromatherapy (peppermint is a great picker-upper).  Rub it all over before you hop in the shower and your skin will glow!

You could even go crazy with the sugar scrub and mix it up a bit.  Try some mashed up banana instead of the oil.  Or use yogurt and some tomato for the alpha-huydroxy effect.

Does your hair need extra conditioning in the summer?  Dried out from too much sun or pool water?  Try mixing in about a 1/4 C of mayonaise and letting it sit for half an hour before washing out.  Or use an egg mixed with a bit of coconut oil.

If your hair needs a bit of shine due to that sun and pool water again , mix about a tsp of HONEY (there it is again....my favorite superfood!) into about 4 C of water and mix into your hair after shampooing.  Do not rinse it out.

So there's a few of my natural summer beauty recipes.  Simple, clean and natural.  And best off all, they make you look and feel great!!
